The
American 18 Daysailer is an outgrowth of out popular 14.6 Daysailer
offering many of the same great features plus more space and storage.
Designed as a result of the need for a large open daysailer which
can handle the larger waters, the American 18 fulfills this need
and provides space for the whole family with it's large open cockpit.
The seven foot wide beam and flat bottom planing full design create
a stable boat that is very difficult to capsize yet fast and fun.
There is no need to hike out in an uncomfortable position, the American
18 sails with minimal heel and is easy to control, even when sailing
alone. You sit deep in the boat with a high backrest and lots of
leg room and the 150 square feet of Dacron sail provide for a quick
and enjoyable day in a light breeze or stiff wind. The boat has
more than ample storage space with compartments under the seats
and large bow compartment. The American 18 also offers a self-bailing
cockpit ideal for those who wish to moor the boat behind their lake-house. For
the mast system high quality Dwyer anodized masts and booms are
used along with stainless steel rigging. Foam floatation logs are
also run along the inside of the mast extrusion for added safety.
Best of all is the tabernacle mast step allowing one person to step
the mast. For hardware you will find Harken blocks and cleats used
wherever possible, providing durable quality operation in fresh
or salt water sailing. There is no wood on the boat to maintain
and all the hardware is backed with aluminum plates and installed
using stainless steel fasteners.
